ALTERNATIVE M.A.

• What does Alternative M.A. mean?

By Alternative M.A. we mean a non institutional postgraduate course, unregulated by official academic organisations. The content, structure and methodology is devised entirely by The Gramounce. However the length, rigour and workload reflect those of regular MAs.

• How long is the Alternative M.A. ?

The Alternative M.A. lasts one academic year, from October 2024 until the beginning of June 2025.

• Can I take the Alternative M.A. without a degree?

Like most postgraduate art courses the answer is yes. However we will expect you to have a graduate knowledge equivalent, however you might have acquired it.

• How much is the workload of the Alternative M.A.?

We will have weekly live sessions of 90 minutes and for full participants one 10 day on-site residencies per term (3 residencies in total). There will be suggested readings per week, which, along with your project development might take up 5 hours of self directed work per week. However, it is entirely up to you how much time you dedicate to the course apart from the live seminars, since the course is designed to support your practice.

• Will I get a certificate?

Yes. We issue certificates as The Gramounce. Bear in mind that we are not an official institution so we cannot offer you official credits.

• How much does the Alternative M.A. cost?

The full version costs 2500€. However, this does not include the travel and accommodation costs of the residencies. The online only version costs 620€.

• When will I have to pay?

  For the full M.A., as soon as you receive your offer you will be given 10 days to make the payment. This is to ensure we fill the spots, and we don’t have last minute cancellations leaving us with empty seats. For the online version, you sign up via payment.

• Can I just take the online lessons?

Yes, you can sign up directly to the online-only version of the course. However, if you wish to join the full version, attendance to the 3 residencies is required.

• Can I pay in instalments?

It depends if your bank card will allow for instalment options such as Klarna. You can find out at checkout.

• Will I have to write a dissertation?

If your project is a text piece, we will assess it as a dissertation. If your project is not a written piece and you wish to submit a dissertation it is also an option.

• Will there be grades?

No. As most art schools your final work is not graded, however the assignments might be graded.
